Double surveillance on kids
I just knew a disturbing situation that happened to a neighbor of 9 years old last week.
A family that lives next to me went to a camping park last week. First day went ok, second day, the 9 years old was in the swimming pool under the surveillance of his father. He was playing in the water with another boy when he suddenly started floating of the water facing down. The boy that was with him thought he was just kidding and his father that was outside the swimming pool also thought it was a joke. As he was taking a long time (seconds of course) to take his head from the water, his father start calling him and moaning at him saying it was not funny to play like that. His father reached him, still calling him, when he realized that his son was drowning. It was not a joke, he had fainted on the water and was drowning. He was reanimated by a life guard and an ambulance was called. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he spend some hours under examination and making exams.
The case it's not clear, maybe a cardiac problem, neurological but nothing was detected. Maybe it was a "one time" situation, maybe it will happen again. They have to wait and see if it happens again or not. They are very concerned and aware that they could have lost their son. This proves that even if we have our kids under our eyes, accidents can happen although they shouldn't. Accidents can happen right under our nose.
Having a very active boy I always had double surveillance on him because he is very distracted. Maybe sometimes I might exaggerate with my concern...but I have to look for him and it's my duty to keep an eye on him.

We have 3 girls and we've always been like hawks watching over them. Only yesterday I heard on the radio that a 2yr old fell off an apartment balcony In Toronto and died. Supposedly there were bikes in the balcony, which the 2 yr old climed on and over. They went on to say that over the past few months there were over 20 such cases reported (not deadly though)
Hi Chris,
Thanks for commenting on my blog.
Regarding the balcony I had a similar situation with my daughter. http://soleflor-en.blogspot.com/2007/07/my-flower-could-have-fallen-from-second.html
When my son was 1,5 years old he fell from the first floor to the basement floor through an opening on our wooden stairs...and I was right next to him. Fortunately he was ok because he fell sit on his diaper and only after on his back.
I'm so afraid of several floors malls and buildings and terrified with balconies.
All the best to your family.
I couldn't agree more, you have to watch them like Hawks.
We have a 2 year old son and were on holiday last year with some friends, we were all sat around the small pool watching him messing around when suddenly he fell in, it couldn't really of been helped as he did genuinly fall in.
Luckily we were all watching him so he didn't really have time to swallow much water but god knows what could have happened if we weren't paying attention!
