Pool and pool alarms

My kids, specially my daughter wants to go to the pool everyday when she arrives from daycare. As we arrive at 7pm at home the backyard is already on the shadow so the water is cold and not pleasant to bath in it.

What I usually do when she insists a lot and starts a tantrum is put her feet in the water so that she can realize that the water is too cold to go inside. Fortunately she finds the water too cold and gives up.

I didn't know there were pool alarms available to put on the pool. I knew the regular fire alarms and movement alarms (like the ones from ademco) but when I bought the pool and they saw my kids they said we could buy a pool alarm to prevent accidents. Once I have a good view of the pool from the house I don't find necessary to put a pool alarm.

If you have a pool and you are afraid that your kids might go inside without your knowledge it's better that you install a pool alarm.

The pool is already in use

Finally we bought a new pool for our backyard. It's not a big one but it's enough for the kids to have a great time.

As you can see in the photo the backyard needs some improvements. The barbecue is already there but without a cover yet. We have some plastic home furniture on the right side (not showing in the photo), to be more exactly one table and four chair. When it's not two windy we eat outside.

We hope to paint the walls and do some improvements maybe next year, for now it's enough for the kids to play.

Learn how to do a 360 Flip with your skate

This time I have a movie from Ruben Gamito, the Portuguese National Skate Champion 2007 who wants to show us skate tricks.

Be aware that even if you are comfortable with skating it's better that you protect your head, elbows and knees with appropriated material.

Interested in learning how to make a 360 Flip?? Here it is:

Closet cleanup

With high temperatures back it's time for another closet clean up. Last weekend I started to move winter clothes to another closet and bring summer clothes to the everyday closet.

Most of my kids clothes will not fit next season so I have to prepare some bags with clothes to give away. Among the clothes I found some crib bedding that are not useful for us anymore. Probably I'll ask my neighbors if they know someone that might need them. It's crisis time and used clothes are highly accepted nowadays.

Need help with melted wax in marble

Does anyone have any idea how can I remove wax from marble stone? I had two candles on top of my fireplace and with the heat the wax melted in the marble stone. I was able to remove the candles but cutting them at the bottom but now I have to remove the wax from the marble. I'm afraid that while trying to heat it up I might damage the marble so suggestion are appreciated. Thanks.

Problem with the kitchen exterior shutters

We've got trouble with our kitchen shutters. Two weeks ago they started coming out of their place when we open them. It is a malfunction that my husband has been able to fix temporarily, but each time that happens he has to open the interior wood lid where the exterior shutters roll up when we open them. There are days when the shutter just stop in the middle of the window. So annoying. My husband has to find a way to fix it for good.

I'm tired and ...getting old

I've been feeling so tired lately. My back aches so much that I can't stay in the computer for too long at night. Two months ago I was able to stay in the computer until 2am or 3am now I can barely stay one hour. I'm really getting old, age is starting to weigh a lot and I guess my back problem will get worse along with me getting older. I really wish I could take advantage of some St. Barts villa rentals and have a good rest.

My father's Alzeihmer progress

Today I visited my father (who has Alzeihmer) and he keeps recognizing me and always asks for my husband (when he's not with me). My mothers says that each day that goes by his memory is worse. During the day or night, most of the time, he doesn't recognizes my mother and when he does, he calls her bad names. Although she knows he's sick she's sad with that. What can we do, it's the disease. :(
