Recipe: Rabanadas (Portuguese Fried Toast)

This time I bring here a Not Light recipe. Once Christmas is just 3,5 weeks away I thought about this Portuguese recipe that usually is made on Christmas and New Year events. I make this recipe at least once a month and Rabanadas are delicious.

RABANADAS (Portuguese Fried Toast)

Ingredients :

1- 1 tbl Sugar
2- ½ cup Warm milk
3- ¼ cup
Rum
4- 8 slc
White bread from square loaf
5- 2x
Eggs, beaten
6- ½ stk
butter
Confectioner's sugar
Ground cinnamon

- Mix first 3 ingredients. Soak bread in this mixture. "Now lift each slice carefully with a wide spatula and dip in beaten egg to cover both sides.

-
Carefully transfer each slice to a frying-pan in which plenty of butter is quietly sizzling. Fry golden-brown on both sides. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon."

Being a fry recipe you might think it will ruin your diet, well...my opinion is that Rabanadas are worth the risk. You know, there are treadmills for sale. :)

My mortgage increased again

Can you believe that my mortgage increased again? Although the taxes are decreasing, in December I'm going to pay a higher amount. The bank assistant told me that the calculation of the new mortgage taxes amount is based on the average of the last three months so I still caught a bad month with high taxes. I have to wait until February to see a decrease...

Meanwhile I checked my insurance policies and tried to get better prices for my insurances, specially the term life insurance which is the most expensive one, but I got no luck. Prices are very similar and it's not worthy to change from insurance company. Maybe next year.

Buy Artesan Bacon

Are you a Bacon Lover but you are tired of supermarket bacon? Now you have a choice. The Pig Next Door is the right place for you to buy perfect, delicious traditional bacon. Salt and spices are used to cure the bacon and it is smoked very slowly over a real wood fire. This might take a lot of time but it is superb.

If you want to receive a package of premium artisan bacon every month you just have to be a member of the bacon of the month club. You can also try this delicious bacon on the Heirloom Club.

Already thinking about New Year?

Have you already thought about where you are going to spend the New Year's? I'll probably stay at home but I know a lot of people are going to travel and spend that special night away from home.

If your budget allows it, take advantage of it and have fun with your family in a nice place on that night. If you want to get rid of the cold, rain and snow choose a tropic destination. If you want to have maximum fun with your kids, then go to Disney World or if you want to test your luck stay in a las vegas hotel and try the Casinos.

The important thing is Have Fun and a Good Time!

Safety Tips for Toy Buying

Ah yes - the holidays are coming. Retailers are sending out their massive holiday toy circulars, filled with every possible toy and game under the sun. Chances are, if you weren't the first one to the mailbox, your kids grabbed it and already have a mile-long wish list. When it comes to shopping for those hot toys this holiday season, remember to do your homework. As parents, being educated when it comes to the latest in toy safety is essential. Whether you're looking for the perfect play kitchen for your young one, or the latest video game for your older child - it's better to be safe than sorry. Here are some important toy safety tips to consider when shopping for your children's holiday gifts this season.

1.) Read The Label: Just as you would when shopping for your groceries, it's important that you read the labels found on toys. See what age the toy is appropriate for and what material the toy is made of. Also, when buying for younger children, check the box to see how many smaller pieces are included.

2.) The Bigger The Better: It's very important that you assess each potential toy for potential choking hazards. Sure, this might take some of the fun out of the process, but it's absolutely essential! You need to make sure that all of the included parts and pieces are larger than your child's mouth. Young children are going to put toys in their mouths - it's inevitable.

3.) "You'll Shoot Your Eye Out!": It's a good idea to avoid toys and games that have pieces that shoot out at high speeds, as these could injure your child's eyes or possibly become a choking hazard.

4.) Non-Toxic Toys: Make sure that you purchase toys that are non-toxic. Here are some specific types of toys to avoid.

    • Painted toys, jewelry containing lead
    • Ceramic or pottery toys manufactured outside the U.S. and Europe
    • PVC (vinyl) toys, bibs and backpacks containing lead
    • Toys containing "phthalates" or toxic chemicals such as xylene, dibutyl, phthalate, toluene and benzene
    • Painted toys containing cadmium
    • Check out healthytoys.org for safety information on top toy brands like Little Tikes, Disney, Fisher-Price and more!

5.) UL Approved Electronic Toys: Check the product labels to make sure that all electronic devices are approved by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), an independent product safety organization.

6.) Check For Recalls: Once you have purchased your gifts, make sure you stay on top of all the latest toy recalls. Visit the website for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to find out which products have been recalled, or go to recalls.gov.

With all the other stresses that come with the holiday season, toy shopping should not be one of them. By doing a little bit of research before you shop, you can save yourself time and have peace of mind, knowing that your child's toys are safe.

Stay in shape for the holiday's celebrations

Summer is over and I started hearing people talking less about losing weight but now, with Christmas and new year celebrations on the way, diets are again "in". Diet pills and fat burners are words he hear again.

Before buying any product to help you lose weight, seek advice with your doctor or nutritionist specialist to find out which is the best diet pill or best fat burner for you. Each person has a different metabolism so, what's good for one person might not be appropriate for another. Make sure you have the right one for you.

Chistmas is on its way

Christmas is approaching fast and the pressure to buy the gifts is increasing. My son has made up his choice, a PlayStaytion Portable. He is putting his piggy money ahead and we put the remain amount in order to have the money for it. He also is very fond of Helicopters and he wants a new one but he has to wait for his birthday. He lost his helicopter remote control and has it is from an unknown brand so I hope that the remote control helicopters have can be used in every brand.

Gifts for my daughter are difficult to choose because...she wants everything she sees on TV, so for us we still have no idea what to give her.

Educational Supplies For Busy Moms

Author: Seomul Evans

When the start of school is looming, parents rush out to find educational supplies for their children. They carry long lists of items, from pencils to binders and backpacks to calculators. When school supply shopping is done, harried moms are able to put their feet up and exhale. But there is something they may not be thinking about: What about educational supplies for themselves?

Every mother has had the joy of trying to keep dates and papers straight. Just when you think you have it all under control, you realize that appointment is tomorrow or the permission slip you were supposed to turn in yesterday is somewhere in a pile of papers on your table or... is it? Make no mistake. Moms need educational supplies, too.

Organization doesn't have to be difficult. In fact, it is fairly easy if you have the right equipment. Filing cabinets with clearly labeled file folders are a must for the organized parent. Large wall calendars and planners can help busy parents keep track of appointments. Having a specific place for children's projects helps to keep your house clear of clutter. The need for school supplies extends far beyond the walls of the school building.

If you buy a wall calendar, it is smart to get one that is done on a dry eraser board. This way, it can be updated from week to week. If your child has a hard time remembering gym clothes because gym class is held only two days a week, writing "Gym day" on every Wednesday space can be a great reminder for you as well as your child. Write down due dates for school projects and outline a schedule for getting them done. For example, you might write, "Purchase poster board and find old magazines" on one day and "Research for half an hour online" on the next day. This is a great way to teach your children to be responsible by organizing their time. Educational supplies can be even more educational than you might think.

Other supplies for parents should include a planner. Many parents already have planners for work and may even have a planner for home. This can be nerve wrecking as one may not match the other and parent teacher conferences may accidentally be scheduled at the same time as that all-important business meeting. Buy one nice sized planner that can be used for both home and work. Every week, be sure to copy appointments and due projects to the wall calendar.

Your file drawers should have clearly labeled files containing such things as immunization records, birth certificates, report cards, and copies of school papers. Why should parents make a copy of official transcripts and papers they fill out for schools? Well, sometimes the school may not be as organized as you are and may need to be reminded of classes taken and information that has been given even if they believe you dropped the ball. These things happen. Being prepared can save a lot of headaches for yourself and the school.

Another educational supply can include a place for school papers that must be signed by you. This can be a simple bin placed on top of your desk or file cabinet. Make a point of reminding your children to place these papers in the bin so you will be able to find them easily.

A large cork board for class schedules, lunch menus and event reminders can be put up beside your calendar. While the calendar can say, "Bake sale - 2 PM" on the Saturday slot, there may not be room for the location and your contribution to the event. Having reminders posted nearby can support you when you find you don't have all the information you need.

Don't let yourself be bogged down with papers and appointments because of a lack of organization. Your own educational supplies are as important as your children's needs when it comes to making everything run smoothly throughout the school year.

Time for life insurance quotes

My life insurance payment is in January 1st so it's time to ask for life insurance quotes in three or four insurance companies. I do this every year to see if I can save a few bucks. I had no luck with the car insurances but I'm hoping to get a reduction on this one.

It is important to check the insurance companies once in a while because sometimes they just take advantage of our inactivity has insurance owners and keep a higher price when they could ask us for a lower amount. We have to keep in touch so they don't forget we do not forget. :)

Setting Goals - The Important Factors

(Going through a tough time myself, I thought about publishing an article about Motivation.)

Setting goals sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Why is that? What makes it an effective practice, and when does it fail? It's all about how you do it, and later in this article you'll find six or seven tips on how to properly set goals. But first lets take a deeper look at the "motivation factor."

A teenager might have a goal to be the best among his peers at playing some video game, and even if he knows nothing about setting goals he can succeed. Why? Because all he probably needs to do is what he loves - play the game a lot. That shows the motivating power of doing what we enjoy. In fact, it has been said that we all have plenty of motivation, just not necessarily where and when we want it. That's a key to this secret of successful goals.

Now, a goal to be a successful painter or businessman probably needs to be a bit more structured. Even if you love art or love business, there will be parts of the process that are not so much fun. A painter can't very often just paint. He needs to find galleries to display his paintings, and that means "selling" his vision to other people, which might not thrill him. A business woman needs to do a whole range of things, some more inspiring than others.

Building your goals on things that you are passionate about is a great start, then, because there is a certain amount of inherent motivation that keeps you going. But you also have to do those necessary things that don't necessarily excite you. There are two approaches to this.

First, you can delegate such tasks or sub-goals as much as possible. If you want to invest in rental real estate but you hate dealing with tenants, you could hire a management company. If you want to be a great writer, but aren't thrilled about talking to publishers, try to find an agent. Of course, you won't always be able to delegate distasteful tasks, and even the process of finding such help can be less than exciting. That leads us to the most important way to stay motivated to accomplish your goals.

Make goals based on your true values, then see and feel all the necessary steps as inseparable parts of the process. In other words, start with what is truly important to you, and don't pretend that the necessary steps are separate from that goal. Don't pursue money for it's own sake if all you want it for is to travel or have the time to write. Start traveling or writing! And if that requires making some money, see that as part of the goal, not as an unpleasant task that you wish you could avoid.

Look, if a boy doesn't want to feed a dog and clean the messes in the yard, does he really want a dog? Or does he just like his "idea" of having one? His idea might not include any of the work involved. If you really don't want what is required, do you really want the outcome? Is it a true goal or just a wish?

Start with real values, see the real costs and work involved in various options, and if you still want that goal, pursue it as an integrated process. A runner can't win a race without running, and if you see the necessary steps as just that - absolutely necessary - you aren't tempted to resist them. We put gas in the car not because it's fun, but because we see the necessity clearly. Similarly, we can find the motivation necessary for any goal if we don't allow any mental pretenses. If the goal is truly important and the task truly necessary - and we see this - we act.

Now here are those tips or "rules" for setting goals effectively:

1. Write them down.

2. Make them specific.

3. Make then realistic.

4. Make them measurable.

5. Set clear deadlines.

6. Break them into steps (make a plan).

7. Change your plan as necessary.

8. Take action as soon as the goal is set.

The latter is important to proper goal setting and accomplishment. Once you have a target that inspires you, take any small step in the right direction. This creates a kind of momentum in your mind and in the process.

Winter means new clothes and shoes for my kids

It's amazing how fast kids grow up. This week I've been putting away clothes and shoes from my kids at a speed rate. Now that really cold days are here all winter clothes are back in the shelves the problem is: what still fits and what doesn't. I end up trying 2-3 shirts or trousers on them and they just to the giveaways box. Today I tool a box with pyjamas and other clothes to the daycare in order for them to giveaway for those that need the clothes.

Shoes is another issue, during summers feet just grow up so fast, some shoes, Classic UGGs boots and slippers are already on a box to giveaway.

Result: I need to go shopping for clothes and shoes...

Review your TV location if you have back pain

Due to my back pain I've been feeling since the beginning of the year I'm really thinking about changing my bedroom TV location. It is on top of a small cabinet and when I'm in bed I have to lift my head with pillows in order to be able to watch TV. I was thinking about putting it in the wall on a higher place by using those TV wall holders. A friend told me about TV Lift cabinets where we just press a button and a pop up tv mechanism is activated, the TV will then come out of the cabinet but that won't help me because the TV will be at the same level as I have it now. Definitely putting the TV on the wall will be a better option.
